Boost Your Immune System

As the temperature begins to drop, watch out for the sniffles! People seem to be more susceptible to "catching a cold" in the Fall season. Your immune system is kicked into overdrive as you start spending more time indoors in closer contact with other people.

Keeping your immune system strong can make all the difference between being well or sick this season. Here are a few suggestions on how to keep your immune system running at its peak level:

1)Hand washing is a simple but extremely effective way to reduce your exposure to germs.

2)Remember your jacket and use it as the temperatures begin to drop at night. Inadequate coverings can make you more susceptible to germs.

3)Finally and most importantly - the food that you eat can make a huge difference in boosting your immune system. Eat colorful fall vegetables, like squash, pumpkin, kale, and collards to stimulate your immune system.

Also, avoid foods that suppress your immune system, especially if you are already feeling sick. Every time you ingest sugar (I.e. cookies, cake, ice cream, sugar in coffee, etc.) you suppress the cells in the immune system for up to 5 hours at a time.
