There's a reason that you have big dreams and aspirations, in spite of your current circumstances. Everything God put on the inside of you, He wants to make reality. Have you thought of how it would be, to live in the reality of the things you see in your dreams? What would your happiness/joy quotient be, if you began to gain knowledge, plan and take action toward the visions that you see internally?
Would you be surprised to know that you have an alter ego, who is always trying hastily to go in the opposite direction of your path of success? Imagine... your achievements could be held up by some inner conviction that is truly not feeling your desire to make something of your life. The name? Your inner deadbeat. We all have one. The strength and appearance of the I.D. -- as we will call it -- is directly in proportion to how much time and energy we give to it. Some I.D.'s are in the background and don't affect our lives, while others are large and in charge! The strength of the I.D. is evident in the choices we make and the outcomes we receive.
Are you surprised? Defensive? Don't be. Take this quick exercise: take a moment and consider all of the excuses you may have used for a) not getting started, b) giving up on projects and dreams, c) being 'tired' (you know... everybody's tired!),
d) procrastinating, and e) not trying hard. It's sobering isn't it? You are not alone in this, by any stretch of the imagination. You are actually in the company of a huge group.
There are a lot of people who would ask what is wrong with being comfortable with not achieving anything. These people may be terribly unhappy, but they have decided to give up dreaming because it is too hard, too vulnerable, too uncomfortable...and the list goes on. Yet, they don't see the point in changing. So, if you see yourself there, you are really not alone in that mindset.
The thing is, do you want to 'join the club,' or do you want to break out of the tiring cycle of not reaching out, because of fear, negative conviction, misinformation or laziness? Are you wondering about the cycle? There's a reason that the inner deadbeat is coincidentally like the psychology concept of the id. Let's look at the definition of the id:
According to Freud's psychoanalytic theory of personality, the id is the personality component made up of unconscious psychic energy that works to satisfy basic urges, needs, and desires. The id operates based on the pleasure principle, which demands immediate gratification of needs.
Here's how this all ties together. The desire to receive instant gratification often brings us outcomes that are directly opposite to our progress. For example: Overspending gets you into debt, unreasonable anger gets you remorse/broken relationships, sleep replaces action, procrastination and fear cause you to miss opportunities, etc,. I think you get the point. When the id is strong, the decisions we make do not lead to our progress. The 'inner deadbeat' is not trying to be patient, plan, pray, love, or be uncomfortable. It's "satisfy me NOW, and then we'll deal with the other stuff, later (maybe)."
Please consider this -- You would not have had the dreams if there was not some way that you could achieve them. Don't you want to at least try to achieve and walk in a better reality, than your fear and disappointment show you? Silence your inner deadbeat! I challenge you to dream and write down at least 2 of the dreams that you remember vividly. What would it take to achieve them? What can you begin to do now? To begin moving in the direction of your deepest desires for achievement is progress! If you never try, it is failure. And you were NOT created to fail. You were created to win!
For we are what he has made us, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand to be our way of life. Eph 2:10 NRSV
See you at the top!
