Avoid the Comparison Trap
Are you having difficulty in moving forward with your business idea or dream? It is possible that you are comparing yourself and your progress to those around you who are in the same field, or have the same business idea. This could be the reason for your failure to move. Comparison to others can be a motivator, but unfortunately, it often becomes a trap. Procrastination, Fear, Criticism, Sloppiness, Overextending oneself, Envy and Jealousy are unfortunate by-products of comparing yourself and your ideas to others.
In the area of business, we often see precious dreams die before they are given a chance, because individuals feel that they cannot measure up to what others are doing. This is seen more often in personal life, where individuals feed a defeating cycle of low self-esteem and self-concept that keeps them in a 'half-empty' glass view point of their achievements, when compared to others.
Listen, if you know that you have a vision from God then you owe it to yourself to at least try to achieve it. Give your business idea a chance. Your contribution is going to be unique! No matter if it has been done before, you do it because you are meant to do it. Don't equate yourself or your contribution with what others have done, or are currently doing. The key is to do the best that you can, and then stretch out some more. Each person brings a unique gifting to the universe. Have you heard of the sphere of influence? There are people who you alone will have the opportunity to affect positively; with your life, your idea or product. Why not go for it?
The trap with comparison is that you will always find someone who is in a better, worse, larger, smaller, higher, lower (and so on) state than you are. Someone is right now making more money than you are. Someone is making less. So what? Why waste precious time comparing yourself and your achievements to them? You don't know what others have had to invest, in terms of time and effort.
What's the point of being critical of others? It's easy to do, but... have YOU done what you are supposed to be doing? Are you fulfilling your calling? Actually, have you taken the time to seek out and pursue your calling? For sure, there is a great work that you are supposed to be about {Ephesians 2:10}. We encourage you to not allow fear of measuring up to someone else to keep you from even coming out into the light.
Compare yourself to yourself! Where do you plan to go? Are you better than you were before? Are you achieving at a higher level than previously? Are you experiencing pride in the decisions you make and what you set your hands to? We are often our toughest critics. Well, why not make a point to find small ways to make yourself proud, on a regular basis? At the end of the day, when you've done your best, you can receive your results in peace.
Here's to your rich life,
